Director of daycare centre at centre of abuse scandal cleared

The public prosecution department said on Tuesday it will not prosecute Albert Drent, former director of an Amsterdam daycare centre where child abuse was discovered.

At the centre of the scandal is Robert Mickelsons, who worked for the Hofnarretje group for several years. He was arrested in December 2010 and has admitted abusing dozens of children in his care.
Drent resigned as director later the same month when it was discovered he had held sleepovers for four-year-olds at his home. He denies any wrong-doing and is not a suspect in the case..

Accusations

Several parents of children involved had made formal accusations against Drent.
The public prosecutor said Drent was not involved in the sexual abuse and could not have known it was going on, according to press reports.
However, they are still looking into the centre’s administration because Drent is suspected of falsifying record, media reports said.
