Despite the economic slow down, we still like our holidays
The Dutch spent €15m on holidays and short breaks between October 2010 and 2011, the same as in the previous two years, according to new research by Nipo.
Almost 82% of the Dutch went away at least once. Foreign trips were slightly more popular than holidays at home.
In particular, we took 8% more spring breaks, encouraged by the good weather in the early part of the year. But the poor summer led to a 6% drop in holidays at home.
Unsurprisingly, we took more holidays in sunny destinations like Spain (up 15%) and Turkey (up 3%). Germany is still the most popular foreign destination, followed by France.
The political protests led to a 20% drop in holidays in Egypt and 40% reduction in trips to Tunisia.
