Crisis and internet hit spending on leisure

The Dutch spent 4% less on days out over the past year than they did in 2008, while spending on hobbies shrank 7% according to new figures published on Monday.

Spending on recreation and hobbies fell to around €47bn, due mainly to the economic crisis, the researchers from market research bureau NBTC-Nipo said.
However, the rise of home-based internet activities also played a part, the researchers said.
Outdoor activities such as cycling and walking remain most popular at 25%, with sport and shopping on 16%.
