Beatrix becomes oldest reigning Dutch monarch
Queen Beatrix becomes the Netherlands’ oldest reigning monarch on Saturday, when she will become 73 years and 278 days old.
Until now the longest reigning monarch was king Willem III, who died on 23 November 1890 at the age of 73 years and 277 days.
Within Europe there are four monarchs older than Beatrix: queen Elizabeth of Britain (85), kind Albert of Belgium (77), kind Harald of Norway (74) and king Juan Carlos of Spain (73).
