The Amsterdam flat where Anne Frank lived before going into hiding during World War II will be open to the public on December 9 – but just 300 people will get a glimpse of the house where the Jewish girl began writing her famous diary.

The Frank family lived in in the flat at Merwedeplein from December 1933 to July 1942. Anne began writing her diary there when she was 13.
The flat was bought by housing corporation Ymere in 2004 and has been restored to the style of the 1930s. The flat is now leased to the Dutch literature fund which, in turn, allows it to be used by foreign writers who cannot write in their own country.
The only known film of Anne was taken at the Merwedeplein when she was watching neighbours leave for a wedding.
