Trade unions are greying fast

The greying of trade union members is accelerating, with the number of members over 65 years of age rising 6.8%, according to figures from the central statistics agency CBS.

Unions are greying faster than the population where the number of people over 65 rose 2.3%.
The number of union members under the age of 25 rose for the first time since 1993, says the CBS. There are currently 74,000 young members, 3,000 more than in 2010.
However, this is a lot fewer than twenty years ago when 10% of young people were union members. Today the figure is 4%.
