Police monitor Amsterdam’s Turkish and Kurdish communities

Amsterdam police officers are closely monitoring the capital’s Turkish and Kurdish communities after clashes at the weekend, the Parool reports on Monday.

Nine people, including five police officers, were hurt on Sunday evening after Turkish youths attacked a Kurdish community centre in the west of the city.
The attack was said to be in response to an attack on Turkish soldiers by Kurdish militants close to the Iraqi border last week. At least 24 soldiers were killed in that incident.
Kurds in Amsterdam told the Parool there had also been attacks on Kurdish interests in Germany and called on the police to do more to prevent such action in the future.
