Some 70% of the Dutch think youngsters who have lived in the Netherlands for more than eight years should be given a residency permit, according to a TNS/Nipo poll for refugee group VluchtelingenWerk and Defence for Children.

The poll also shows 71% of Christian Democrat voters support permits for children, as do 53% of VVD voters and 43% of the supporters of Geert Wilders’ PVV.
Three-quarters of the population also think Mauro Manuel, the 18-year-old Angolan youth threatened with deportation, should be allowed to stay. MPs will vote on his case next week.
