Friesland’s PVV leader leaves the party
The leader of the anti-Islam PVV on Friesland provincial council has left the party because he does not agree with its standpoint on Islamic headscarves and ‘Islamisation’.
Jelle Hiemstra told the local broadcaster Omroep Fryslan his more moderate views are not appreciated by the party leadership in The Hague.
He is also unhappy at the lack of support from the rest of the party when he was beaten up by two men in his own home in Sneek.
Hiemstra will continue as an independent councillor.
