Free bike storage at train stations should continue, say MPs

A majority of MPs is opposed to the transport ministry’s plans to hand responsibility for bike storage at railway stations to local councils – so they can impose charges, Nos television reports.

At the moment, the railways have to offer free bike parks to passengers.
However transport minister Melanie Schultz van Haegen wants to put local councils in charge instead because, she says, the current situation is untenable. Racks are too full, bikes are abandoned at stations and there is too much demand, Nos quotes her as saying.
