Cabinet softens court fee increases
The cabinet has amended its plans to sharply increase the cost of going to court following criticism from lawyers that the new charges would make it too expensive for many people to take legal action.
The cabinet had been planning to introduce a €500 basic court fee but has now reduced this to €250 for cases involving student grants or social security and €400 for other disputes between private individuals and the government.
Individuals will only get the fee back if they win their case.
