Ajax pins hopes on internet broadcasting

Amsterdam football club Ajax hopes to earn more money from broadcasting matches via the internet, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Tuesday.

Ajax earned €3.1m from broadcasting rights last season, down 25% on the previous year.
The Dutch premier league clubs set up their own company to exploit the television rights three years ago and have their own channel Eredivisie Live. However, subscriptions are down on forecasts and cable companies also cream off a large part of the proceeds.
Using internet would allow the clubs to cut out the cable companies, commercial director Henri van der Aat is quoted as saying.
