Supermarket pay talks in trouble
Talks on a new pay and conditions agreement for the supermarket sector have been halted after six rounds failed to produce any real movement.
FNV trade union Bondgenoten now wants to consult with members about its next moves, ahead of its following scheduled meeting with employers on October 10.
The union is angry that the ongoing price war between supermarkets is ‘largely being fought over the backs of youngsters’, news agency ANP reports. It wants youth wages to be abolished.
Some 75% of supermarket workers are younger than 23, the age at which adult pay rates kick in. The minimum wage for an 18-year-old is € 30.14 a day
