Six farmers leave the industry every day, according to figures released on Tuesday by the central statistics agency CBS.


The Netherlands currently has 70,000 farms, 3% fewer than this time last year, says the CBS. Compared with 2008, the number has fallen by 28%, while the amount of land used by agriculture dropped by 6%.
The number of horses and ponies fell by 6,000 since last year and there were 4% fewer sheep.
