Separate maths and science lessons for Venlo trainee teachers
Venlo’s teacher training college is introducing separate maths and science lessons for male and female students from this academic year, local paper De Limburger reports on Monday.
The paper says the college authorities hope the segregated classes will encourage more men to press on with their teacher training courses.
‘Boys and girls have to be approached differently,’ director Annigje Primowees told the paper. ‘ Girls like to do sums using stories. But boys just want concrete sums or they drift off.’
Last month, the head of the Christian education centre Wim Kuiper suggested introducing single sex classes in both primary and secondary education to boost performance.
