Prosecutor wants eight years jail for Geleen mother

The public prosecutor told a court in Maastricht on Tuesday that the Geleen woman standing trial for the death of three babies should go to jail for eight years.

He said Anita C is guilty of infant manslaughter in one case and infanticide in the other two, according to press reports.
The 42-year-old defendant was arrested last year following the discovery of three dead babies at her home.
The prosecutor said the death of the first baby in 2007 was infant manslaughter because Anita C was faced with a new situation. Malice aforethought has not been proven.
In the case of the other two babies, Anita C knew what she was doing so the charge is infanticide.
The prosecutor took into account the woman’s slightly diminished sense of responsibility in asking for the eight year sentence.
