Police to share information with security firms
The police should be able to share information such as photos, number plates and descriptions with trustworthy private security firms, junior justice minister Fred Teeven said on Friday.
At the moment, the flow of information is one way – from security firms to the police. Teeven’s sees no reason why this should not be a two-way exchange.
The police commission is pleased with the move and does not foresee problems with privacy so long as the sharing of information is properly supervised.
A parliamentary majority is in favour of the move, although the left-wing liberals D66 are warning this is privacy-sensitive information and sharing it goes too far.
