Public transport workers in Rotterdam, Amsterdam and The Hague will go on strike again in October in protest at government cuts and plans to put the services out to tender, according to news agency Novum.

The date of the strike has not yet been finalised.
Transport minister Melanie Schultz says the public transport firms can work much more efficiently than they do, and wants to cut spending by €120m. She also wants to force the three city councils to put tram and bus services out to competition.
These plans ‘will have dramatic consquences for city public transport services,’ FNV union spokesman Eric Vermeulen said in a press release.
‘Public transport firms have cut costs by €160m since 2004. More cuts will lead to a loss of quality, services and jobs.’
