Ministers set for grilling
Junior health minister Marlies Veldhuijzen van Zanten and defence minister Hans Hillen are both expected to face a grilling from MPs later on Thursday, the Volkskrant reports.
The health minister is under fire for her plans to stop thousands of elderly people and people with handicaps claiming personal budgets to help them live at home.
Last week, the government’s macro-economic planning bureau said the reforms would only save €600m, not €900m as the minister claims. Standards would also be reduced, the CPB said.
Defence minister Hans Hillen is also expected to face tough questioning after stating that the Netherlands’ new mission to help train police officers in the northern region of Kunduz is a military rather than a civilian mission.
The mission only won parliamentary approval following assurances that it was not military in nature.
