Link council admin systems to combat fraud, government told

Local councillors want more tools to track down social security fraud, including the right to link the benefit, tax office, housing and council registration computer systems, Utrecht council executive Rinda den Besten told the Telegraaf on Wednesday.

By linking the various administrative systems, it is possible to work out if people actually live at the address they claim to live at, Den Besten told the paper.
The databases cannot be linked at the moment because of privacy rules.
On Tuesday, the social affairs ministry said investigators had discovered social security fraud involving a total of €119m last year.
