Forensic lab made major mistakes with dna tests, Telegraaf claims

The national forensic institute has made hundreds of serious mistakes with dna research, the Telegraaf reported at the weekend.

The paper bases its claims on internal research obtained using freedom of information legislation.
The mistakes range from contamination of dna samples, dna being attributed to the wrong case and a breakdown in procedures.
Fourteen years
In total, the paper has identified almost 1,700 errors made over the past 14 years. Nearly 400 of those cases involve contamination.
The paper says the information it has so far is not complete and that it is going to court to continue its campaign.
Meanwhile, MPs have called on the justice ministry to make a statement on the findings.
