First autumn storm hits northern Holland

The first official autumn storm hit parts of the Netherlands on Tuesday night, with winds of up to gale force nine hitting northern parts of Noord Holland province and the Wadden Sea area.

Winds of over gale force eight are considered ‘stormy’ by Dutch weather forecasters. The last time autumn storms hit the country in September was in 2004.
There were several reports of storm damage in northern areas as trees blew down. There were also some localised problems with flooding.
The weather is set to remain windy with showers into the weekend.
