Financial services watchdog fines trader for Fortis rumour

The financial services authority AFM has fined London broker MF Global €384,000 for spreading wrong information about the Fortis banking group in 2008.


The information, sent to customers at home and abroad, was ‘wrong and misleading’ but was widely reported in the media. Fortis was forced to issue two press releases to counteract the reports.
The paper did not give further details.
