Education chiefs beat salary ceiling

At least 59 education institution heads are earning more than the agreed maximum for public sector workers, according to calculations by teaching union AOb.

The union bases its claim on information gathered from annual reports published by secondary schools, colleges and universities.
The biggest earner is Wageningen University chief Aalt Dijkhuizen, who has a total package worth €350,000.
The maximum pay for senior public sector staff is €193,000, in line with the prime minister’s salary, but MPs are currently discussing proposals to increase this to €224,000 for very senior executives.
Student bodies say they are shocked by the high rates of pay. ‘If students get less because of the cuts, the top layer should stop filling their pockets as well,’ said Pascal ten Have of the LSVb student union.
