Dutch give €1m for UN support mission in Libya

The Netherlands is giving €1m towards the preparation of a UN support mission to Libya, foreign minister Uri Rosenthal said on Wednesday.

The mission will help the Libyan national transitionary council to restore law and order in the country, set up a new constitution and elections and the protection of human rights.
The Netherlands has not been asked to provide any specific expertise for the mission, which will last for three months.
The Dutch are also giving €1m to the organisation Handicap International which will clear landmines and unexploded munition in Libya.
There are no plans to send Dutch soldiers to help with this clearance, according to defence minister Hans Hillen.
Earlier on Wednesday parliament voted for a three-month extension to the Dutch involvement in enforcing the no-fly zone over Libya.
