Angolan youth, in foster care since he was 10, to be deported
An Angolan youth who arrived in the Netherlands as a 10-year-old refugee without his parents is to be deported now he is 18, Nos television reports.
Mauro Manuel has lived with foster parents in Limburg for the past eight years.
Immigration minister Gerd Leers says there are many young asylum seekers with worse prospects than Manuel and there is no reason not to send him back.
Socialist party MP Sharon Gesthuizen has asked for an explanation from Leers, saying the decision is ‘inhumane and wrong’.
It is not clear from the media reports if the youth has family in Angola or what his prospects in terms of education and employment are.
