2012 budget: deficit falls less than expected, economy

The budget deficit will fall to 1.8% by the end of the current cabinet’s term in 2015, double the previous forecast, according to the official annual statement by the macro-economic forecasting agency CPB.

That news was leaked earlier this week, but the CPB has now published its final report a day earlier than planned because the rest of the 2012 budget has also been placed on the internet by hackers.
The budget deficit will fall to 2.9% next year, as disappointing economic growth tempers expectations. This is only marginally below eurozone stability pact rules and means the Netherlands still risks not meeting the European Commission’s deadlines, the Financieele Dagblad says.
