Jobless rate rises for men as downturn hits male employment sectors

Men aged 25 to 45 have been hardest hit by the economic downturn because it is sectors which traditionally employ men which have been affected, the national statistics office CBS said on Monday.

The number of men in this age category who are without a job has gone up from 46,000 three years ago to 90,000, the CBS said.
The industrial, construction, farming and business services sectors traditionally employ more men and have lost some 200,000 jobs over the same period.
But there has been growth in areas which traditionally employ lots of women, such as the care sector, the CBS said.
