Home owners association warns on transfer tax claim fees
The home owners lobby group VEH is warning people who have recently bought a house not to pay high fees to a notary if they want to claim back some of the transfer tax.
The government recently cut the transfer tax on property transactions from 6% to 2%, and backdated the cut to mid-June. This means hundreds of people can claim back the money, which runs into thousands of euros.
However, the claim must be made by an official notary and some have been charging up to €600 to carry out the procedure, the VEH says.
‘That is an awful lot when you think that they have to carry out a simple administrative process,’ a spokesman told news agency ANP.
