High speed line makes too much noise

Trains using the high speed line between Amsterdam and Rotterdam make too much noise, infrastructure minister Melanie Schultz van Haegen told parliament on Thursday.

People living in the Lansingerland area of South Holland had complained about the noise, but the ministry had refused to do anything about it, saying it was not necessary. The Council of State agreed with the ministry.
Now new measurements show that noise levels on the line are above accepted standards, says the Telegraaf.
Schultz van Haegen will talk to the local council and will consider noise abatement measures if follow-up measurements show the situation has not changed, says the paper.
