Government discusses more power for Brussels
Key members of the government are prepared to give core responsibility for economic policy to the European Union in Brussels as the only way to stabilise the eurozone, the Algemeen Dagblad reports.
The report follows a meeting on Monday evening between prime minister Mark Rutte, deputy prime minister Maxime Verhagen, finance minister Jan Kees de Jager and social affairs minister Henk Kamp.
Handing more sovereignty to the European Union would include the setting up of a European institute to intervene in member states before a crisis erupted. Countries could then be placed under guardianship if a majority of leaders agreed, says the AD.
