A business man and former leader of the VVD in Maarsen has been sentenced to two years in jail for corruption, tax fraud and forgery by Utrecht district court.

Sjoerd Swane was not in court to hear the verdict and is thought to have gone into hiding.
He was found guilty of accepting bribes in connection with a new housing development in the town and fraud in connection with the sale of company owned by property dealer Jan-Dirk Paarlberg.
He was also found guilty of tax evasion.
