Footballer turns down transfer to Britain because of homesickness
ADO Den Haag football player Wesley Verhoek has turned down a transfer to a British club because he was worried he would be homesick, according to media reports.
Verhoek, 24, was due to move to Nottingham Forrest but had also been targetted by Glasgow Rangers.
‘It was a straight choice between Glasgow or Nottingham but now it will be neither,’ Verhoek is quoted as saying by Scottish newspaper the Daily Record.
‘I was weighing up Rangers or Forest and I asked people all about Rangers and what it’d be like to live in Glasgow,’ he said. ‘Nottingham was even closer to home but now I know I wouldn’t be happy here either. I just want to play in Holland for now.
‘There is no second agenda and no other club involved. I’m not going anywhere else. I’m just going back to Den Haag and I’ll be back at training there tomorrow. I’m sorry to all the people I have let down.’
The size of the transfer fee which ADO has agreed with Forrest had not been made public.
