Essent operating profit almost halved
Essent, the Netherlands biggest energy company now owned by German giant RWE, saw operating profit almost halve in the first six months of this year.
The sharp drop is largely due to the transfer of Essent’s gas trading activities to RWE, as well as lower demand for gas.
That stemmed not only from the fact winter was not as cold as 2010, but the knock-on effect of the E-coli outbreak, which reduced demand from the energy-intensive greenhouse growing sector, the company said.
