Civil service, health pension funds have fewer assets
The coverage ratios of civil service pension fund ABP and health service fund Zorg en Welzijn have fallen below 100%, the funds said on Wednesday.
ABP, one of the biggest pension funds in the world, said the drop is due to both falling interest rates and financial market developments. As yet, there are no implications for pensioners a spokesman said.
According to the NRC, the decline in the health service pension fund’s assets means pensions will not rise in line with inflation this year.
The decline in coverage ratios means the funds do not technically have enough money to meet all their pension obligations. The central bank requires pension funds to have a coverage ratio of at least 105%.
