Chemi-Pack fire cost €71m
The huge fire at chemical storage company Chemi-Pack in January cost €71m, €31m more than originally reported, safety region Midden and West Brabant said on Friday.
Chemi-Pack was declared bankrupt on Tuesday. The official receiver said on Friday several companies are showing interest in a new start-up.
The sum includes €64m for cleaning up the surrounding area once the fire was out.
On Thursday a report by the safety inspectorate into the fire in Moerdijk concluded there was a lack of coordination and communication by all parties involved. The risks inherent in Moerdijk, with its sea port and chemical companies, were not sufficiently understood, it said.
