Social affairs minister Henk Kamp and daycare organisations are in talks on the possible introduction of camera surveillance in creches, the Volkskrant reports on Wednesday.

The government has agreed to spend nearly €25m next year on improving the supervision of day care in the wake of the Amsterdam child abuse scandal. Cameras are one option under consideration, the paper says.
Creche worker Robert Mikelsons has admitted abusing up to 88 children in his care, either at a creche or while he babysat for them at home. Much of the abuse was able to take place because Mikelsons was alone with the children.
The supervision of creches is currently up to local authorities. The Netherlands has 12,400 creches and after school centres.
