A 22-year-old woman from Veenendaal is under police investigation for possibly killing her newborn baby, which was found dumped in a rubbish container, the AD reports on Tuesday.

The woman, named as Melissa, kept her pregnancy secret and gave birth at the weekend. Her boyfriend has been questioned by police but released without charge. The baby´s body had been placed in a rubbish container outside his home in the village of Scherpenzeel.
According to the AD, the discovery has shocked the 6,000 residents of the Bible Belt village, where he lived. ´Lots of people thought she was pregnant but that is not the sort of thing you ask,´ one regular at the village bar told the paper.
Melissa is currently being cared for in a prison hospital in Scheveningen.
