Sharp rise in online shopping complaints

There has been a sharp rise in the number of complaints about online retailers, the national consumer authority says in Wednesday’s AD, without giving precise figures.

The most common complaints include late delivery, lack of response and the refusal to refund money, the authority says.
‘One of the problems is that anyone can begin a web shop,’ said spokeswoman Rita Buit. ‘If something goes wrong, customers have nowhere to go and feel quite helpless.’
The organisation says it plans to intensify its monitoring of the online retail sector and improve information to consumers to make sure they aware of what they are doing.
