Protests as cable giant Ziggo drops analogue CNN, BBC2

Broadcast advisory councils all over the country have contacted the media commission to complain that cable giant Ziggo is dropping CNN, BBC2 and other foreign broadcasters from its standard analogue programme package, the Telegraaf reports on Monday.

The company, which has three million customers, says it needs the cable room to provide more digital broadcast services. On its website, Ziggo states that ‘digital is the new standard’. Some 55% of subscribers are digital viewers, the company says.
The media commission says it is collating the protests and will make a general ruling once all the complaints are in.
Ziggo is owned by private equity groups Cinven and Warburg Pincus and is preparing to launch on the stock exchange.
