Police officer shoots at man with knife at Eindhoven airport

An immigration police officer at Eindhoven airport fired shots at a man who threatened him with a knife on Friday.

The man, whom eyewitnesses said had been shouting ‘I want to go back to my country’, was shot in the leg and has been taken to hospital.
Video footage of the incident shows police officers encircling the man on the square in front of the departure hall. At least four shots can be heard.
A number of holidaymakers witnessed the shooting and the main departure hall has been closed. However, a spokesman for the airport told news agency ANP flights had not been affected.
Later it emerged the man is a 30-year-old Polish national.
