EU summit cancelled with good reason, says prime minister
The cancellation of next Monday’s crisis summit of EU leaders is a sensible move, prime minister Mark Rutte said on Thursday evening.
The meeting was scrapped because there is unlikely to be any agreement on how to finance a second emergency loan to Greece.
‘We should not organise a summit if we are not sure that it will reach proper conclusions,’ Rutte is quoted as saying by the Volkskrant.
The Netherlands and Germany are insisting that banks, pension funds and insurers play a part in the bail-out but other countries say it would be risky to put too much pressure on private investors.
