Chip machine maker ASML sees drop in third-quarter orders

Chip machinery maker ASML expects a drop in orders in the third quarter of this year, after booking second quarter orders below expectations.

ASML booked sales of €840m-worth of systems in the second quarter, but said third quarter bookings would not be above €500m.
‘Our customers are currently taking some time to assess the semiconductor end-demand trends for 2012 before determining their overall capacity plans levels and timings,’ CEO Eric Meurice said in a statement.
Veldhoven-based ASML has a global market share of around 70% and counts Intel, Samsung and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing among its customers.
