Youth groups set up black list of ‘suspicious’ volunteers
Volunteer organisations are setting up their own blacklist of suspected paedophiles and other ‘dubious characters’ to make sure they do not find work with youth groups, the Volkskrant reports on Friday.
The paper says the privacy protection body CBP has already approved the plan, which has been five years in the making. The list will include people who have been involved in behaviour which is not necessarily criminal but which is deemed unsuitable, the paper says.
Sports body NOC/NSF, Scouting Nederlands and a number of summer camp organisations are expected to sign up later this year.
Some two million volunteers currently work with children, and about one million of them are involved in sport.
The paper says just one member of the club or organisation will have access to the list.
