Van Gogh museum to close for six month renovation project
Amsterdam’s Van Gogh museum is to close for six months from October 2012 to carry out improvements to the building, director Axel Rüger said on Friday.
During the rebuilding process, the museum’s top 75 works of art will be on display at the Hermitage museum on the Amstel river.
The Van Gogh is the fourth major institution in Amsterdam to close for renovations.
Amsterdam’s modern art museum, the Stedelijk, will not reopen this year as planned. The museum has been closed for renovations since 2004 and the project has been beset by problems.
The city’s Rijksmuseum and maritime museum are also closed for renovations and will reopen in 2013.
