Ruud Gullit sacked by Grozny football club
Former Dutch international Ruud Gullit has been sacked by Russian side Terek Grozny, less than six months after he got the job.
Gullit was told that his job was on the line if Terek did not beat rival side Amkar Perm on Tuesday.
Terek lost 1-0, leading club president Ramzan Kadyrov to tell news agency Interfax: ‘Gullit will no longer train Terek. Unfortunately he was not in a position to prove his capacities as coach. Under him, the team have played exceptionally poorly this season.’
Kadyrov is also president of the Russian republic of Chechnya. Gullit’s appointment to the Grozny job was highly controversial at the time because of Kadyrov’s human rights record.
Commenting on his sacking, Gullit says in the Telegraaf: ‘At least my being here has put Terek Grozny on the map, because no-one had heard of the club before.’
