Police not keen on animal cops training
Over 90% of 400 police officers questioned by the Socialist Party are not keen on the government’s commitment to train 500 officers to specialise in animal cruelty cases, the Telegraaf reports on Wednesday.
MPs are due to debate the issue on Thursday. The animal cop proposal comes from the anti-Islam PVV and is one of its conditions for supporting the minority cabinet on economic policy.
One police officer who has been told to take the special course is quoted as saying it was ‘forced down his throat’.
In the main, police officers are worried that more important issues such as child abuse and armed robbery will be ignored if they have to focus on animal cruelty.
