Nuclear waste transport goes ahead

The transport of nuclear waste from the Borssele nuclear power plant in Zeeland to France was halted twice by protestors on Tuesday but proceeded on its journey after they were cleared by police.

In total, 28 people have been arrested so far. Many of them had chained themselves to the tracks.
The waste, the first in six years to be transported to France, will be reprocessed in La Hague.
Most of it will then be re-exported to the Netherlands.
The shipment was allowed to go ahead after it was cleared by the Belgian courts. Ghent local council tried to have it blocked because of the radiation risk.
