Gambling revenues are down

The combined income of the five government-licenced gambling organisations in the Netherlands fell by €10m last year, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Tuesday.

In 2009, the five groups, including lotteries for good causes and Holland Casino, booked combined revenue of €2.5bn but last year that fell to €2.4bn, the paper says.
The main cause of the decline is lower income from the Holland Casino group, which blames the smoking ban and the recession on the change in its fortunes.
Fewer people also took part in the national lottery, where revenue fell €40m to €665m.
