Fallow deer damage totals €1,381 last year
The damage to private and council property caused by fallow deer in the dunes east of Amsterdam amounted to €1,381 last year, according to compensation fund Faunafonds on Wednesday.
Amsterdam city council is poised to vote in favour of culling the deer because of claims they cause widespread damage to crops and private gardens.
Faunafonds paid out €8m in compensation for damage caused by protected species last year. Of this, almost €6m went to help farmers whose crops and land had been damaged by overwintering geese.
